Job Overview: The Department of Arts & Entertainment Enterprise at Drexel University's Antoinette Westphal College of Media, Arts & Design seeks a seasoned, accomplished, and visionary individual to join its faculty and to direct a new graduate program in Museum Leadership.
The Master of Science program in Museum Leadership will focus on educating tomorrow's museum leaders to meet the financial, technological, and programming challenges of the future. The curriculum will cover management and leadership principles and practices for museums of all stripes and sizes, ranging from the small historic house museum, to history, science and art museums, to zoos, aquaria and other living collections. Courses will include traditional and online classes as well as practicum experiences. The program will enroll its first class of students in Fall of 2013.
The Program Director will provide leadership for the long term development of the program, as well as day to day program management, including teaching in the program, curriculum development, oversight of other teaching faculty, coordination with other departments within Drexel, and the development of partnerships with local and regional museums.
Drexel's Museum Leadership program will collaborate with the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, along with other leading local and regional museums, creating learning laboratories that will provide practical experiences and professional connections to our students.
Responsibilities: -Direct and develop a program in Museum Leadership that will achieve national prominence -Teach graduate courses in museum leadership -Develop and sustain partnerships with local and regional museums -Develop and sustain relationships with existing and potential partners from within other Drexel Schools and Colleges -Review and revise curriculum as appropriate -Recruit students -Recruit new faculty as needed -Build additional support for the program through foundations and other potential supporters.
Essential Functions: Essential Functions in Addition to Responsibilities Above Advising -Serve as academic advisor to all students in the program; guiding them from application through selection of courses to graduation -Provide job search and career advice to students Research/Scholarship/Creative Activity -The successful candidate will be expected to build or maintain a national reputation for professional expertise in museum leadership including scholarly publication and/or creative work, consultancies, board membership, periodical publication, or conference presentations -Collaborate with faculty in their specific disciplines on scheduling and projects that would be beneficial to the program and its students Service to the University -Review student applicants -Administer the program including student recruitment, curriculum development and revisions, course evaluations, and raising awareness of the program's activities -Participate in departmental activities and initiatives -Serve on committees for the college and the university -Identify industry professionals as guest speakers and advisors to the program
