'Walking Dead' pics: Rick, others prep for battle

By Drusilla Moorhouse, TODAY contributor

We know "The Walking Dead's" third-season finale will be a bloodbath. The only question is how many main characters will be lost in the battle between The Governor's Woodbury forces and Rick Grimes' new democracy.

Gene Page / AMC

Will Michonne embrace the prison gang's all-for-one-and-one-for-all fightin' spirit? In one of several shots from "Welcome to the Tombs," exclusive to The Clicker, the sword fighter has returned to the prison, and clearly she and Rick have a lot to chat about. Although we bet he'll do most of the talking -- Ricky has some 'splainin' to do after nearly sacrificing her to the gubernatorial torture chamber.?

Gene Page / AMC

And even as the Walkers roam the prison yard, Carl draws strength from the family picture he fought so desperately to retrieve from the Grimes' old house (with help from Michonne).

Pullback possible after stocks reach milestone

NEW YORK -- After flirting with an all-time high for three weeks, the S&P 500 posted its best closing level in history. But strategists say Thursday's record could be a harbinger that the stock market rally is running out of steam.

The S&P traded within 10 points of the all-time closing high for 13 sessions before breaking through, showing that investors need new catalysts to push firmly above resistance levels.

"As the market has gone higher ... upward moves have generally gotten smaller, which suggests that the move is getting old and that we need a pullback," said Mark Arbeter, chief technical strategist for Standard & Poor's in New York.

Stocks could fall about 3 percent to 4 percent, he said.

The benchmark index has risen almost 10 percent so far this year, fueled by strong profit growth and accommodative monetary policy from the Federal Reserve. But those gains have slowed as investors fret over Cyprus's bailout and mixed signs about the economy.

Still, stocks have been resilient, lifting the S&P to its record close of 1,569.19 on Thursday. Investors stepped in on declines to buy and finally pushed the S&P above the previous record set on October 9, 2007.

The broad index is also within a stone's throw of its intraday record of 1,576.09. The Dow surpassed its record close on March 5 and set a series of records, ending Thursday at 14,578.54.

The S&P has risen for 11 of the past 13 weeks, up 0.4 percent over the past two weeks. In contrast, the CBOE Volatility index, a measure of investor anxiety, is up about 14.5 percent over the same period.

"The increase in volatility we've seen is far more likely to be the sign of a short-term top" than the trend of investors buying on dips, Arbeter said. "If that volatility persists, then you would need to worry about an intermediate top."

In addition, speculator positions show a preference for holding long positions. Mike O'Rourke, chief market strategist at Jones Trading, noted that long positions account for more than 65 percent of speculative positions in futures contracts, a point at which rallies can be overextended.

U.S. markets will be closed for the Good Friday holiday and reopen on Monday.

The stock market next week will face tests of the milestone it reached, with the situation of Cyprus's banks and a round of U.S. data, including the March jobs report on Friday, facing investors.

About 197,000 jobs were added in March, according to a Reuters poll of economists. That would be down from the 236,000 jobs created in the previous month but still suggest improvement in the labor market. The unemployment rate is seen holding steady at 7.7 percent.

A strong payroll report could spark caution if it raises questions about whether the Federal Reserve would be more inclined to reduce monetary stimulus more quickly.

"There will be those who fear that if things improve too dramatically, too quickly, the Fed will take its foot off the pedal of quantitative easing," said Kristina Hooper, head of portfolio strategies at Allianz Global Investors in New York.

So far, however, the Fed has not suggested a change in its stimulus measure is likely. If the central bank slows the rate of its monthly bond purchases, a program that has been credited with boosting equity prices, "that could cause some weakness," Hooper said.

Rex Macey, chief investment officer at Wilmington Trust in Atlanta Georgia, said a "Goldilocks report" was needed for markets to rally.

In the first quarter the S&P rose 10 percent. It gained 3.4 percent in March, the index's fifth straight monthly rise. The Dow was up 3.7 percent in March and more than 11 percent in the first quarter, while the Nasdaq composite index was up 3.2 percent in March and 8 percent in the quarter.

Cyprus will remain in focus after the government was forced to accept a stringent European Union rescue package to avert default. In a positive sign, there were no runs by depositors on banks after they reopened under tight controls on Thursday.

Macey, who helps manage about $20 billion in assets, compared the market's situation to the card game "Texas Hold 'Em" poker where players start out with cards they can see and don't see additional cards until after rounds of betting.

"Based on the cards we can see now, which are things like economic fundamentals, I think stocks are a fine place to be in the longer term," he said. "However, there are still cards we can't see, like what the resolution will be in Cyprus, that could cause trouble."

Texas D.A. slain in his home; had armed himself

KAUFMAN, Texas (AP) ? Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland took no chances after one of his assistant prosecutors was gunned down two months ago. McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere he went and was extra careful when answering the door at his home.

"I'm ahead of everybody else because, basically, I'm a soldier," the 23-year Army veteran said in an interview less than two weeks ago.

On Saturday, he and his wife were found shot to death in their rural home just outside the town of Forney, about 20 miles from Dallas.

While investigators gave no motive for the killings, Forney Mayor Darren Rozell said: "It appears this was not a random act."

"Everybody's a little on edge and a little shocked," he said.

The slayings came less than two weeks after Colorado's prison chief was shot to death at his front door, apparently by an ex-convict, and a couple of months after Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was killed in a parking lot a block from his courthouse office. No arrests have been made in Hasse's slaying Jan. 31.

McLelland, 63, is the 13th prosecutor killed in the U.S. since the National Association of District Attorneys began keeping count in the 1960s.

Sheriff David Byrnes would not give details Sunday of how the killings unfolded and said there was nothing to indicate for certain whether the DA's slaying was connected to Hasse's.

El Paso County, Colo., sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Joe Roybal said investigators had found no evidence so far connecting the Texas killings to the Colorado case, but added: "We're examining all possibilities."

Colorado's corrections director, Tom Clements, was killed March 19 when he answered the doorbell at his home outside Colorado Springs. Evan Spencer Ebel, a white supremacist and former Colorado inmate suspected of shooting Clements, died in a shootout with Texas deputies two days later about 100 miles from Kaufman.

McLelland himself, in an Associated Press interview shortly after the Colorado slaying, raised the possibility that Hasse was gunned down by a white supremacist gang.

The weekend slayings raised concerns for prosecutors across Texas, and some were taking extra security precautions. Byrnes said security would be increased at the courthouse in Kaufman but declined to say if or how other prosecutors in McLelland's office would be protected.

Harris County District Attorney Mike Anderson said he accepted the sheriff's offer of 24-hour security for him and his family after learning about the slayings, mostly over concerns for his family's safety. Anderson said also would take precautions at his Houston office, the largest one in Texas, which has more than 270 prosecutors.

"I think district attorneys across Texas are still in a state of shock," Anderson said Sunday.

McLelland, elected DA in 2010, said his office had prosecuted several cases against racist gangs, who have a strong presence around Kaufman County, a mostly rural area dotted with subdivisions, with a population of about 104,000.

"We put some real dents in the Aryan Brotherhood around here in the past year," he said.

In recent years, the DA's office also prosecuted a case in which a justice of the peace was found guilty of theft and burglary and another case in which a man was convicted of killing his former girlfriend and her 10-year-old daughter.

McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere, even to walk his dog around town, a bedroom community for the Dallas area. He figured assassins were more likely to try to attack him outside. He said he had warned all his employees to be constantly on the alert.

"The people in my line of work are going to have to get better at it," he said of dealing with the danger, "because they're going to need it more in the future."

The number of attacks on prosecutors, judges and senior law enforcement officers in the U.S. has spiked in the past three years, according to Glenn McGovern, an investigator with the Santa Clara County, Calif., district attorney's office who tracks such cases.

For about a month after Hasse's slaying, sheriff's deputies were parked in the district attorney's driveway, said Sam Rosander, a McLelland neighbor.

The FBI and the Texas Rangers joined the investigation into the McLellands' deaths.

McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, 65, were the parents of two daughters and three sons. One son is a police officer in Dallas. The couple had moved into the home a few years ago, Rozell said.

"Real friendly, became part of our community quickly," Rozell said. "They were a really pleasant, happy couple."

Drobo adds Copy cloud syncing and Plex media server apps for 5N owners

Drobo adds Copy cloud syncing, Plex media server apps for 5N owners

Drobo has long had an apps platform to extend the usefulness of its smart drive enclosures, but there's been limits to what it can do in the cloud and mobile spaces. The company is widening that support this week, and it's inaugurating the effort with a pair of apps for the Drobo 5N. For us, the real highlight is Plex support, which turns the 5N into a high-capacity, redundant media server that can boost its storage as the content library gets bigger. The more pragmatic among us will like Barracuda Networks' Copy, which offers unlimited file syncing and sharing that will seem familiar to Dropbox aficionados. Copy is already available for free, while Plex should also be gratis when it's ready in April -- the only real hurdle will be justifying $600-plus for a living room video hub.

[Thanks, Jack]

North Korea says enters "state of war" against South

By Jack Kim

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said on Saturday it was entering a "state of war" with South Korea, its latest bout of angry rhetoric directed at Seoul and Washington, but the South brushed off the statement as little more than tough talk.

The North also threatened to shut down an industrial zone it operates jointly with the South near the heavily armed border between the two sides if Seoul continued to say the complex was being kept running for money.

The two Koreas have been technically in a state of war for six decades under a truce that ended their 1950-53 conflict. Despite its threats, few people see any indication Pyongyang will risk a near-certain defeat by re-starting full-scale war.

"From this time on, the North-South relations will be entering the state of war and all issues raised between the North and the South will be handled accordingly," a statement carried by the North's official KCNA news agency said.

KCNA said the statement was issued jointly by the North's government, ruling party and other organizations.

There was no sign of unusual activity in the North's military to suggest an imminent aggression, a South Korean defense ministry official said.

The North has been threatening to attack the South and U.S. military bases almost on a daily basis since the beginning of March, when U.S. and South Korean militaries started routine drills that have been conducted for decades without incident.

Many in the South have regarded the North's willingness to keep open the Kaesong industrial zone, located just a few miles (km) north of the border, as a sign that Pyongyang will not risk losing a lucrative source of foreign currency by mounting a real act of aggression.

The Kaesong zone is a vital source of hard currency for the impoverished state and hundreds of South Korean workers and vehicles enter daily after crossing the armed border.

"If the puppet traitor group continues to mention the Kaesong industrial zone is being kept operating and damages our dignity, it will be mercilessly shut off and shut down," KCNA quoted an agency that operates Kaesong as saying in a statement.

The threat to shut it down could sharply escalate tensions because it would suspend a symbolic joint project run by the rivals. It could also trap hundreds of South Korean workers and managers of the 123 firms that have factories there.

The North has previously suspended operations at the factory zone at the height of political tensions with the South, only to let it resume operations later.

The project has been kept running despite the North's move on Wednesday to cut off a military hotline used to process the hundreds of workers and vehicles that cross the Demilitarized Zone border.

"We have been exercising extreme restraint considering the plight of medium and small companies whose livelihood depends on the Kaesong industrial project as an immediate shutdown will drive them to bankruptcy and people jobless," KCNA quoted the agency as saying.

The South's Unification Ministry, which handles political ties with the North, said earlier in the day that the Kaesong industrial park was operating as normal with workers and vehicles crossing the border both says.

"North Korea's statement today (on entering a state of war) ... is not a new threat but is the continuation of provocative threats," a ministry statement said.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Friday signed off on an order putting its missile units on standby to attack U.S. military bases in the South and the Pacific, after the United States flew two nuclear-capable stealth bombers over the Korean peninsula in a rare show of force.

U.S. officials said the B-2 bombers were on a diplomatic sortie aimed at reassuring allies South Korea and Japan and were also aimed at trying to nudge Pyongyang back to dialogue, although there was no guarantee Kim would get the message as intended.

The South Korean government brushed off the North's latest statement on entering a state of war, saying there was nothing fresh in it to cause greater alarm. South Koreans went about with daily lives as they have done through March under the North's constant threat of attack.

Italy president could resign to allow new election: source

ROME (Reuters) - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano is considering resigning immediately to allow new elections after attempts to form a government failed this week, a person close to the situation said on Saturday.

"The idea is on the table along with many others," said the person, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, adding that the president would probably make a statement on the next steps later in the day.

All of Italy's main newspapers reported that Napolitano, whose term ends on May 15, was considering going early to get around constitutional provisions which prevent a president dissolving parliament in the final months of his mandate.

The 87-year-old head of state met leaders of the main parties on Friday to try to find a way out of a stalemate since an election in February, which raised fears of extended political instability in the euro zone's third-largest economy.

However with all of the three main groups in parliament clinging to entrenched positions that have prevented a majority being formed, hopes of a solution that would avoid early elections have faded.

PFT: Romo gets six-year deal from Cowboys

CampbellGetty Images

When the Browns signed quarterback Jason Campbell, many assumed he?d potentially become the team?s starter in 2013.? And he?ll definitely get a chance to win the job, since he?s the first signal-caller signed by the new regime in Cleveland, after previously starting in Washington and Oakland.

For now, though, he?s getting paid like a backup, and not a lot when compared to other backups.? A source with knowledge of the contract tells PFT that Campbell?s contract pays out $1.5 million in 2013.

Specifically, he gets a base salary of $1.5 million in 2013, $500,000 of which is fully guaranteed.

That said, if Campbell can win the job, he?ll make more money via incentives.? Specifically, he gets $150,000 for 50 percent playing time in 2013, 65 percent results in $350,000, and 80 percent triggers $600,000.

In 2014, Campbell?s base salary is a bit higher, at $2 million.? He also gets roster bonus of $250,000 due the third day of the league year.

But there are escalators for 2014 based on playing time in the coming season.? Campbell?s 2014 base salary will increase by $500,000 based on 30 percent playing time in 2013.? 40 percent playing time in 2013 increases the 2014 salary by another $500,000.? Ten more percent in 2013?? Another $500,000 in 2014.? And if Campbell takes 65 percent or more of the snaps in 2013, his $2 million salary will double.

Still, his backup pay for 2013 is low, and that?s largely because Campbell?s options were limited.? Especially in light of the egg he laid when he had a chance during 2012 to sub for Jay Cutler in Chicago, during that Monday night debacle against the 49ers.

Campbell could have stayed in Chicago and backed up Cutler, or he could have gone to Cleveland with a chance to win the starting job.? If Campbell pulls it off, he?ll be paid more on the back end.

And if he plays really well in 2013, the Browns likely will tear up the 2014 deal and sign him to something better.

Austrian police chase herd of cattle through town

VIENNA (AP) ? Austrian police and firefighters have taken on the role of urban cowboys in a two-day round-up of a herd of cattle that broke out of a fenced-off pasture and decided to go into town.

A police statement says the 43 steers defied attempts by police and volunteer firefighters to recapture them after wandering off Thursday and heading toward the Upper Austrian town of Freistadt. After being chased away from the railway station, they endangered motorists by stampeding onto a two-lane highway before running into a town suburb.

Two firefighters who tried to stop them were injured and needed hospital treatment.

The statement says 18 of the animals remain on the loose Friday. The rest have been corralled or tranquilized.

Then and Now: Katie Wheeler Library | irvine, home, family - News ...

In 1876, James Irvine I decided to build a home that was closer to the stagecoach stop at Tustin City. That same year, construction began on what would be known by many as the "Irvine Mansion," although the family simply referred to it as "The Ranch House."

After Irvine's death in 1886, his older brother George managed ranch affairs until James Harvey Irvine was old enough to inherit the property. George Irvine made many improvements to the home and the agricultural headquarters that surrounded it. He supervised the building of a four mile road that ran from Tustin past the Irvine Family home. The impressive, 80 foot wide avenue was known as Irvine Boulevard.

In 1876, construction began on a larger Irvine home that was close to the stagecoach stop at Tustin City. After the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, James H. Irvine moved his family to the home full-time.

Sunday: Noon ? 5 p.m.

Friday ? Saturday: 10:00 AM ? 5:00 PM

Between the Irvine Family home and the boulevard was a beautiful garden decorated with iron arbors, rose bushes and an impressive driveway lined with Washingtonian palm trees. The wrought iron entrance gates were built in San Francisco in 1891.

After inheriting the ranch, James H. Irvine, his wife and his three children lived in San Francisco. The devastating Earthquake of 1906 convinced Irvine to move his family to the ranch full time. The home was enlarged and reached its fullest size in 1908 as a rambling, 30-room residence.

The large, Georgian country home was witness to many of the joys and tragedies of the Irvine Family. It was in this home that James H. Irvine's first grandchild, a girl named Katie, was born in 1920. Four days later, Katie's mother Kathryn became ill with pneumonia and died. Over the years, the home was the setting for decades of holiday celebrations and family dinners. It was also the place where Myford Irvine, the sole surviving child of James H. Irvine, died tragically in his basement office. His suspicious death, due to multiple gunshot wounds, was ruled a suicide.

In 1965, the iconic home was severely damaged by fire. Three years later, it was demolished.

Today, a beautiful, white mansion stands once again on the exact same spot where the Irvine home had been before. It is no longer the home of the Irvine Family, but of the Katie Wheeler Branch of the Orange County Library. Design architects studied original blueprints and took great care to insure that the new building matched the former home. It was named the Katie Wheeler Library after the life-long philanthropist and granddaughter of James H Irvine who was born and raised in the original home.

Visitors to the Katie Wheeler Library are treated to a trip back in time, where they can imagine the members of the Irvine Family seated by the fireplace or walking up the main staircase. Portraits and personal photos are on display and there is a self-guided tour available for those who want to learn more about the Irvine Family.

Sex offenders in Texas could catch a break

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? Four convicted sex offenders huddled in a busy hallway at the Texas Capitol, congratulating each other for going public and testifying against a bill that would plaster their criminal past on their Facebook profiles.

As expected, not everyone was moved by their objections.

"I don't feel bad for the guys that came in here whining," Republican state Rep. Steve Toth said after the men had left the room at a recent House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee meeting. A Democrat switched on her microphone to voice on the record that she, too, had no sympathy.

In the Texas Legislature and statehouses nationwide, bills aimed at curbing how and where sex offenders can live and work are routine. But for the 72,000 registered sex offenders in Texas this year, there is optimism. A legislative victory is in sight, and it's not for sinking a fresh round of get-tougher proposals ? but scaling back one already in place.

Pushing forward what advocates say would mark a minor but extraordinary softening of the state's sex offender laws, the GOP-controlled Senate has passed a bill to remove employer information from Texas' online sex offender registry.

"I've been on that registry for 15 years and going on for a lifetime," said Hwi-Kee Wong, 34, who works in information technology and said he was arrested at 18 for copying illegal images. "I've never re-offended. I have no intention to re-offend."

It's not a change of heart swaying lawmakers but the wringing hands of frustrated business leaders ? they complain their bottom line suffers when the public discovers who's on the payroll.

The odd result: Sex offenders and Gov. Rick Perry's favorite conservative think tank is among those left seeing eye-to-eye. The Texas Public Policy Foundation, which backs business-friendly bills, argues the current registry comes between the private relationship between employer and employee.

"We've seen if it bleeds, it leads in news coverage for years," said Marc Levin, director of the foundation's Center for Effective Justice. "Obviously, people may be able to make money by doing a news report, 'We went to a McDonald's and there was a sex offender serving as a cashier' or something. It may be salacious, but what's the public interest?"

Mary Sue Molnar, executive director of Texas Voices for Reason and Justice and the mother of a registered sex offender, said the bill is only the second her group has endorsed since forming in 2007.

Hers and a small band of similar organizations typically play defense in statehouses, arguing that decades of stacking one restriction atop another has pushed sex offenders to society's fringes. They say the result is growing ranks of unemployable and homeless outcasts, who then become more likely to commit new crimes.

"(Texas) would have every right to crow, jump up and down, dance jigs ? whatever," said Brenda Jones, executive director of the Massachusetts-based Reform Sex Offender Laws Inc. "It would be a huge win. It's very difficult to do."

Pressure on lawmakers to step up restrictions began intensified in 2005 when 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford of Florida was sexually assaulted and killed by a sex offender, according to a 2006 report by Texas House researchers. States began enacting sweeping "Jessica's Laws" that generally included mandatory minimum sentences and prohibiting sex offenders from living with 2,000 feet of schools and playgrounds.

Rules were being put in place prior to that. In 2001, for example, a Texas judge ordered sex offenders to place conspicuous signs in their front yards announcing their convictions to neighbors. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld that sex offender registries are not punitive, though an Indiana federal appeals court this month did uphold the rights of sex offenders to have social media accounts.

And states ? Texas included? continue to roll out new legislation to more closely track sex offenders and restrict what they can and cannot do. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder this month signed a new law expanding the state's public sex offender registry to include a wider range of crimes involving minors. In Arkansas, a proposal would keep sex offenders whose victim was under 18 on the registry for life, whereas now they can petition for removal after 15 years.

About a dozen bills in the Texas Legislature this session would create new restrictions, including one reinforcing the authority of cities to keep sex offenders away from playgrounds and swimming pools.

In all, it's a reality check that keeps groups stopping short of predicting that wiping employer information off the registry will lead to a wave of other rollbacks.

Tough-on-crime conservatives aren't the only ones piling on the restrictions, either: The Texas proposal that would require sex offenders to list their convictions on social media profiles was filed by Democrats' go-to political attack dog, state Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer.

"The state made a public policy decision in 1991 to get into this business. Every year we've expanded it," Martinez Fischer said. "It's all been done under the rubric that we need to protect the public. And most important, we need to protect those who probably can't protect themselves."

Phil Taylor, a licensed sex offender treatment provider in Dallas, told lawmakers the social media bill would only further stigmatize sex offenders and hamper their efforts to rejoin society. He said 80 percent of sex offenders don't relapse after prison, and pointed out that the group has lower recidivism rates than burglars and other criminals.

Sex offenders, meanwhile, sought to make a pragmatic case to lawmakers: money and resources. State law requires released sex offenders to register within seven days of leaving prison. Jonathan Cooney, 43, said he fell out of compliance that first week of freedom because the state was so backlogged. Three months passed before Cooney said he was finally registered.

"I think if more people knew the person behind the mug shot, they would be more in favor of turning away from sex offender registry," Cooney said.

PFT: Davis stays with Redskins on one-year deal

Michael HuffAP

When he agreed to a three-year, $6 million deal with the Ravens, one of the first things Michael Huff did was text Ed Reed.

But at the same time, he doesn?t need to spend too much time trying to be Ed Reed.

?It means a lot,? Huff said, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. ?He?s one of the greatest, if not the greatest free safety to ever play the game. I just told him that I?ll carry on his legacy, carry on the tradition of great safeties in Baltimore. I?m definitely going to go out there and hold up my end.

?For me to come in here, I don?t really feel like I?m following his footsteps. I?m more kind of starting my own legacy and going in here to help the defense and help us win.?

There are two important reasons not to invite comparisons. One, Reed?s a former NFL defensive player of the year who?s likely to end up in the Hall of Fame when he?s finished.

But as importantly, Reed wasn?t Reed any more on the field last season, which is why they were willing to let him go become a Texan.

The Ravens weren?t going to get into a bidding war for a guy who?s turning 35 this season, allowing Houston to pay him a three-year, $15 million deal for intangibles.

So they found a player who is nearly five years younger, $9 million cheaper, and for the moment, perhaps a better fit.

Huff?s in Baltimore to play safety, but was forced into playing corner last year in Oakland. While he?s not someone you want on an island playing coverage, he can still cover ground, and that?s something the Ravens need in the middle of their new defense.

?He?s just a tremendous player, a tremendous guy,? Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. ?He fits us really well both football-wise and technique-wise, the type of person he is, the type of family man he is.

?He?s going to enable us to keep doing the things on defense that we have been doing and even build on those things. He has done it all because he?s smart, he?s tough and he knows how to play the game.?

So while the Ravens might not have the same kind of name recognition they once had on defense, they might be better. For roughly the same $41 million the Browns spent to lure outside linebacker Paul Kruger away, the Ravens have restocked by signing pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil, lineman Chris Canty and Marcus Spears and Huff, which gives them a better opportunity to live up to the reputation the old guys created.

Elite Eight Teams: Louisville, Michigan Among Teams In 2013 NCAA Tournament Regional Finals

The field of 68 teams in the 2013 NCAA Tournament has been winnowed down to the Elite Eight. Sixty of the best college basketball teams in the nation, including the team that entered the tournament atop the AP poll, have been sent home. The eight teams remaining will play in four regional finals on Saturday and Sunday, with the winners advancing to the Final Four in Atlanta.

With wins on Thursday night, Marquette and Syracuse ensured that at least one Big East team would reach the Georgia Dome. Buzz Williams' Golden Eagles will attempt to solve the 2-3 zone defense of the Orange in the opening Elite Eight game on Saturday. The conference rivals tip off at 4:30 p.m. EST in Washington, DC in the East Region.

Another Big East team (for now), Louisville, is the only No. 1 seed to reach the regional finals. Rick Pitino's Cardinals held off the No. 12 Oregon Ducks on Friday night in the Sweet 16. The Cards will face Duke in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Here are the eight teams remaining and the roads they traveled to arrive at the regional finals.

  • SOUTH: No. 4 Michigan

<strong>Second Round:</strong> Tim Hardaway Jr. and Glenn Robinson III scored 21 points each as the Wolverines dropped 13-seeded South Dakota State, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/21/michigan-south-dakota-nate-wolters_n_2928663.html" target="_blank">71-56</a>. <strong>Third Round: </strong> No. 5 VCU was no match for Michigan. Dominant performances by Mitch McGary and Trey Burke solved the Havoc defense and the Wolverines advanced to the Sweet 16 with a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/23/michigan-vcu-blowout-ncaa-tournament-mcgary-burke_n_2940306.html" target="_blank">78-53 blowout</a> win. <strong>Sweet 16: </strong>Trey Burke shook off a slow start and rallied No. 4 Michigan past No. 1 Kansas. The sensational sophomore drained a game-tying three-point shot to force overtime and the Wolverines went on to win 87-85.

  • MIDWEST: No. 1 Louisville

<strong>Second Round:</strong> Rick Pitino's Cardinals completely overwhelmed No. 16 North Carolina A&T, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/21/louisville-north-carolina-at-ncaa-tournament_n_2928680.html" target="_blank">79-48</a>. <strong>Third Round: </strong> Russ Smith scored 27 points as Louisville topped No. 8 Colorado State <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/23/louisville-sweet-16-colorado-state-ncaa_n_2941352.html" target="_blank">82-56</a>. <strong>Sweet 16: </strong>No. 12 Oregon gave the Cardinals their first test of the tournament. Russ Smith scored 31 points as Louisville held off the Ducks for a 77-69 win.

  • EAST: No. 3 Marquette

<strong>Second Round:</strong> Vander Blue kept the Golden Eagles dancing with a game-winning shot against No. 14 Davidson with just one second left on the clock. Marquette inched by with a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/21/vander-blue-marquette-davidson_n_2927170.html?utm_hp_ref=sports" target="_blank">59-58 win to advance</a>. <strong>Third Round:</strong> In another thrilling finish, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/23/marquette-butler-ncaa-tournament-2013_n_2941847.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000003" target="_blank">Marquette topped Butler</a> 74-72. Vander Blue played the hero once again, recording 29 points. <strong>Sweet 16: </strong>After a pair of tense games, Marquette enjoyed its most comfortable win of the tournament. The Golden Eagles went ahead 29-16 at hafltime and held on for a 71-61 win over No. 2 Miami.

  • WEST: No. 9 Wichita State

<strong>Second Round:</strong> Carl Hall and Wichita State blew past Pitt in its second round matchup, 73-55. Tekele Cotton and the Shockers' defense held Pitt's leading scorer <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/21/wichita-state-pitt-ncaa-tournament-second-round_n_2926238.html" target="_blank">Tray Woodall to just two points</a>. Malcolm Armstead and Carl Hall led the way as Wichita State rolled to a 72-58 win.

  • EAST: No. 4 Syracuse

<strong>Second Round:</strong>?The Orange demolished No. 13 Montana, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/22/syracuse-montana-ncaa-tournament-81-34_n_2929599.html" target="_blank">81-34</a>, to advance to the third round. <strong>Third Round:</strong> In a game that Syracuse coach <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/24/syracuse-cal-ncaa-scores-2013_n_2942025.html?1364098606&utm_hp_ref=sports" target="_blank">Jim Boeheim described as "ugly,"</a> C.J. Fair scored 18 points as the Orange held off Cal, 66-60. <strong>Sweet 16: </strong>The Orange toppled No. 1 Indiana in the Sweet 16, 61-50. The Hoosiers could not solve Syracuse's 2-3 zone and produced a season-low point total.

  • WEST: No. 2 Ohio State

<strong>Second Round:</strong> Deshaun Thomas and Ohio State crushed Iona in a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/22/ohio-state-iona-ncaa-scores_n_2937085.html" target="_blank">95-70</a> second round blowout. Sam Thompson scored 20 points and racked up 10 rebounds for the Buckeyes. <strong>Third Round:</strong> Ohio State narrowly escaped an upset by Iowa State. Aaron Craft sank a game-winning 3-point shot with less than a seconds left <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/24/ohio-state-iowa-state-ncaa-scores_n_2945076.html" target="_blank">to propel Ohio State to the Sweet 16</a>. <strong>Sweet 16:</strong> With No. 6 Arizona seemingly determined not to let Aaron Craft hit another game-winning shot, LaQuinton Ross stepped up.
