The elec?tronic music con?cert Turn Up the Good is set to take place once again at Ferris State.
Headliners include GRiZ, Break Science and The Floozies. The con?cert, spon?sored by Music Industry Management Association (MIMA), is set to take place Thursday, April 4?at 7?p.m. Doors will open to Wink Arena at?6?p.m.
Grant Kwiecinski, known as GRiZ, is a?music pro?ducer from Detroit. He just released his lat?est album, ?Mad Liberation.?
?GRiZ is on that cir?cuit with all of the artists that are play?ing at Ultra [music fes?ti?val] right now,? Zach Rokosz, Ferris senior in music indus?try man?age?ment, explained.
Also a?well-known sax?o?phon?ist, Rokosz believes GRiZ will help cre?ate the fes?ti?val theme he hopes the con?cert will take?on.
Break Science is the other head?liner sched?uled to appear. The elec?tronic duo from Brooklyn was tour?ing last fall to pro?mote its EP, enti?tled ?Twilight Frequency.? Producers Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee have per?formed with artists such as The Fugees, Wu Tang Clan and Talib?Kweli.
The Floozies, a?dynamic pair of broth?ers, will also be per?form?ing. Producer and gui?tarist Matt Hill accom?pa?nied by Mark Hill on the drums claim to turn venues into ?epic dance?parties.?
The open?ing act will be the win?ner of WomStreet. People are given the chance to vote for their favorite mix sub?mit?ted by var?i?ous?DJs.
?I think it?s awe?some that Ferris and MIMA are rec?og?niz?ing elec?tronic music. It?s dif?fer?ent, and I?don?t know of many cam?puses that do it,? Jake Lipovsky, Ferris sopho?more in pub?lic rela?tions, said. ?It?s the best time I?ve had at Ferris this?far.?
Turn Up the Good is in its third year at Ferris State, and Rokosz hopes to increase atten?dance to?1,500.
?The goal first year was to bring this new kind of con?cert to Ferris. I?hope to draw that audi?ence that has never been to a?con?cert like this before,? Rokosz said.
This year?s slo?gan can be spot?ted with mus?taches. At this point, stu?dents know ?let?s get?weird.?
