New Zealand's faith in the hands of Watling ? Cricket News Update
New Zealand?s skipper Ross Taylor has revealed that In-form wicketkeeper BJ Watling is becoming an impeccable part of the New Zealand cricket batting order.
BJ Watling?s is a fresh induction in the batting line-up. Over the last few years, New Zealand have tried out many batsmen at the top level in order to find someone worthy of posing a serious threat to the opposition. With Mark Richardson, Nathan Astle and Stephen Fleming gone from the game, New Zealand have to tried out a bright opening vision every six months. Michael Papps, Aaron Redmond, Craig Cumming, Jamie How, and Tim McIntosh all arrived and failed at the top stage.
27-year-old, Watling has so far been impressive in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, while he has scores of 60, 72 and 40 in his last three innings in the West Indies.
Watling took 23 innings to accumulate three scores over 50, but he currently has four 50?s in five ODIs, by an average of 107.66
"The way BJ is batting is outstanding and he just keeps growing and growing as a player It's terrific, not just for him but also the team," Taylor said. "He's not an automatic selection, but I'm sure the way he's played in the last little while, he's pushing for that."
"He took risks and he hit the ball in the air, it wasn't all along the ground," New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor said of Watling's innings. "He showed the power game that he does have. He's getting a lot of belief in himself, I'm sure, from the way he's batted in the last two games, and half the battle at this level is self-belief."
If New Zealand aim to give Sri Lanka a tough time in the remainder of the ODI series they have to win the fourth match on November 10, but with Sri Lanka getting back to their very best, this would be easier said than done.
For the Kiwis, Watling, would be crucial in the upcoming game and if he bats well, he might lead New Zealand to their first win in the rain-hit series.
